Indian Head Massage

Massage of the upper back, neck, head and arms using special techniques to promote relaxation, improve hair growth, relieve eye strain, sinus problems and insomnia whilst boosting the circulation and lymphatic system.

Massage has always played an important part in Indian life, featuring in texts that date back nearly four thousand years.
In more recent times head massage in India played an integral part of family life. It was originally developed as part of a grooming routine for women.

Today Indian infants often receive a daily massage to keep them in good health.

Echoes of this Indian tradition reached the West long before the practice itself, in the form of the word "shampoo" which comes from the Hindi word "Champi". Barbers in India offer "Champi" (head massage) as part of a treatment. Being "Champied" means having your head massaged.

The technique of Indian Head Massage was introduced into the UK in 1981 by Narendra Mehta.
